What it is
Accented singles on both ends with two doubles inside: accent, double, double, accent. The contour between loud and soft notes is the whole rudiment.
How to practice it
Exaggerate the dynamics while learning. Full stroke on the accents, low taps on the doubles, and keep the inner four notes even. Most players rush the doubles. Played as a sextuplet at 60 to 80 BPM it sits nicely inside one beat, which is exactly how you will use it.
Where you'll hear it
A favorite of gospel and fusion drummers. Moving the accents around the kit while the doubles stay on the snare is instant vocabulary.
