Four doubles plus the release: nine notes that fill a full beat or more and end on an accent. The long roll you will see most in rudimental snare parts.
Put it in time. Four 16th note doubles across one beat, accent on the next downbeat. Keep every double the same width. If the roll speeds up as it goes, you are cheating the later doubles. A practice pad at 80 BPM makes the drift easy to hear.
Marches and rudimental snare parts all over the place, plus any concert roll a beat long with a defined start and end.
All 40 rudiments are in DrumLock free, with notation on screen, a metronome, and a speed trainer that raises the BPM while you play. No ads, no subscriptions.
