What it is

Four doubles plus the release: nine notes that fill a full beat or more and end on an accent. The workhorse long roll of rudimental snare drumming.

How to practice it

Map it to time: four 16th note doubles across one beat landing on the next downbeat is the standard frame. Keep every double the same width. If the roll speeds up as it goes, you are cheating the later doubles. A practice pad and 80 BPM will tell you the truth.
