Alternating strokes, right and left, one hit per hand. It is the first rudiment for a reason: almost everything you play on a kit comes back to clean, even singles.
Start slower than feels necessary, around 60 BPM in 16th notes, and listen for one thing: do both hands sound identical? Most drummers have a dominant hand that plays louder and a weak hand that rushes. Fix that before you chase speed. Then ramp in small steps and stop the moment the strokes get uneven.
Fills, fast runs around the toms, blast beats, jazz trading. Every genre, every kit, every day of your drumming life.
All 40 rudiments are built into DrumLock free, with this notation on screen, a metronome, and a speed trainer that ramps the BPM while you play. No ads, no subscriptions.
