What it is

Alternating strokes, right and left, one hit per hand. Almost everything you play on a kit comes back to clean, even singles. No surprise it sits at number one.

How to practice it

Start slower than feels necessary, around 60 BPM in 16th notes, and listen to whether both hands sound the same. Most drummers have a dominant hand that plays louder and a weak hand that rushes. Fix that before you chase speed. Then ramp in small steps and stop the moment the strokes get uneven.

Where you'll hear it

Fills, fast runs around the toms, blast beats, jazz trading. You will use these every day you play.

All 40 rudiments are in DrumLock free, with notation on screen, a metronome, and a speed trainer that raises the BPM while you play. No ads, no subscriptions.
