Single Stroke Four

Single Stroke Four drum notation, sticking R L R L

What it is

Four alternating singles, usually played as a triplet plus a release note, in short bursts.

How to practice it

The hard part is starting and stopping cleanly. Play the four strokes, rest, play again, and keep the first note from getting an accent that should not be there. Practice leading with both hands. A metronome at 70 to 90 BPM with the burst landing inside one beat is a good place to start.

Where you'll hear it

Drum corps phrases, quick fill fragments, and any lick where you need a fast group of notes that ends on a downbeat.

All 40 rudiments are in DrumLock free, with notation on screen, a metronome, and a speed trainer that raises the BPM while you play. No ads, no subscriptions.
