Single Flammed Mill

PAS rudiment #25 · Flam rudiments

lR R L R rL L R L
Single Flammed Mill drum notation with sticking

What it is

A four note pattern starting with a flammed double: flam, same hand again, then two alternating singles. Like an inverted paradiddle with a flam on top.

How to practice it

The flammed note and the note after it are the same hand, which feels backwards at first. Isolate that flammed double until it flows, then bolt on the two singles. Keep a clear accent on the flam and everything else low. Slow tempos, 60 BPM in 16ths, until the sticking stops surprising you.

Where you'll hear it

Rudimental and hybrid solo vocabulary, and a favorite seed for modern drumline licks.
