PAS rudiment #23 · Flam rudiments

lR L R L lR
Flamacue drum notation, sticking lR L R L lR

What it is

Five notes: a flam, then an accent on the second note, two more taps, and a closing flam. Moving the accent off the front gives it a lopsided feel.

How to practice it

The accent placement is the hard part. Every other flam rudiment accents the flammed note. This one accents the note after it. Practice the four-note group first with the accent on two, then add the flams back in. Keep the closing flam quiet or it takes over.

Where you'll hear it

Older rudimental solos and drum corps from the sixties and seventies. On the kit it makes a fill where the accent lands somewhere people do not expect.
