Eleven Stroke Roll

PAS rudiment #12 · Roll rudiments

RR LL RR LL RR L
Eleven Stroke Roll drum notation with sticking

What it is

Five doubles plus a release note. A longer roll that traditionally starts on an upbeat and resolves on a downbeat.

How to practice it

Longer rolls expose drift. Set the metronome, define exactly where the roll starts and where the release lands, and do not let the middle sag or surge. Practicing elevens cleanly makes the shorter numbered rolls feel easy, which is most of the point.

Where you'll hear it

Rudimental solos and marching snare parts, especially older military-style literature.
