Lesson 25

PAS rudiment #34 · Drag rudiments

llR L R llR L R
Lesson 25 drum notation with sticking

What it is

A drag, then two singles: three note melody with the ornament on the front. Named after lesson 25 in the old Bruce and Emmett drum method book.

How to practice it

Traditionally voiced with the accent on the last note: drag-tap-ACCENT. Keep the dragged note and middle tap quiet so the accent has somewhere to go. It does not alternate by itself, so run left-lead reps on purpose. Once it is comfortable, it chains into ratamacues almost automatically.

Where you'll hear it

The gateway to the ratamacue family and a staple of traditional American rudimental solos.
