What it is

An accented single stroke, then a dragged paradiddle: five primary notes with a drag tucked between the first two.

How to practice it

Count the primary notes as an even five and do not let the drag push the notes around. Hands get tangled going from the opening accent into the drag, so go slow and put each note where it goes. It alternates lead hands on its own, so both sides get worked.

Where you'll hear it

Marches and rudimental solos. It sounds like an old American snare solo because that is where it comes from.
