What it is
An accented single stroke, then a dragged paradiddle: five primary notes with a drag tucked between the first two.
How to practice it
Count the primary notes as an even five and let the drag decorate rather than displace. Hands tangle at the handoff from the opening accent into the dragged note, so go slow and place each element deliberately. Alternating lead comes built in; just keep the reps honest.
Where you'll hear it
Traditional rudimental literature and marches; the stately, ornamented sound of old-school American snare drumming.
